Vocabulary

Advocacy involves speaking up for others to make sure that their rights are respected and their wishes are heard and acted upon by decision makers. It also involves taking part in decisions and matters that affect one's life.
Imagination is the faculty or action of forming new ideas, images, or concepts of external objects not present to the senses. 
Play is the engagement in an activity for enjoyment and recreation, rather than a serious or practical purpose.
Privacy is the state or condition of being free from being observed or disturbed by other people. 
Recreation is activity done for enjoyment when one is not working. 
Respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

My Play Time!

Children have identified that their right to play is to enable the development of their imaginative intelligence, and they have explored the many different ways children play with others or in private. In this sub-unit children act to advocate for the right to play. This includes making sure to communicate respectfully to others when advocating for some privacy or time to play. 
Child Asks: How much time do I spend in meaningful play?
Children's Rights Education enables the child to act to make time to engage in playful activities. 
Child Answers: I have to make sure I get time to play.

Article 12
1. States Parties shall assure to the child who is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child, the views of the child being given due weight in accordance with the age and maturity of the child.
2. For this purpose, the child shall in particular be provided the opportunity to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting the child, either directly, or through a representative or an appropriate body, in a manner consistent with the procedural rules of national law.
Article 31
1. States Parties recognize the right of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts.
2. States Parties shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.
2. No part of the present article or article 28 shall be construed so as to interfere with the liberty of individuals and bodies to establish and direct educational institutions, subject always to the observance of the principle set forth in paragraph 1 of the present article and to the requirements that the education given in such institutions shall conform to such minimum standards as may be laid down by the State.
